Executive Director of the BOK Economic Research Institute

Wook Sohn

Mr. Wook Sohn is Executive Director of the Economic Research Institute of the Bank of Korea (BOKERI) and a professor of banking and finance at the KDI school of Public Policy and Management (on leave).

He specializes in financial intermediaries, financial regulation, and monetary policy. He has published more than 20 articles and participated in the collaborative research project among the Korean, Hungarian and Cambodian governments. His work has appeared in such journals as the Journal of Banking and Finance, Applied Economics, Applied Financial Economics, Economics Letters, Contemporary Economic Policy, World Economics, and Emerging Markets Trade and Finance. He received the Best Paper Awards from Korea Finance Association and Korea America Finance Association in 2010 and 2011, respectively.

He taught at Yonsei University, Seoul National University, and the KAIST Business School. Most recently, he was a visiting professor at the University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business. He also worked for the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System during graduate school.

Sohn served as Associate Dean of the KDI School of Public Policy and Management and Director of the KSP Enhancement T/F at the Center for International Development of the Korea Development Institute (KDI). He was also a member of committees for the Financial Supervisory Service, Korea Housing Finance Corporation, Bond Market Stabilization Fund, and so on.

After receiving his B.A. from Seoul National University, He was awarded his M.A. and Ph.D. from Columbia University.
