Prices in August 1999

Consumer prices rose 1.0% in August over the previous month, following a 0.3% drop in July 1999.  The CPI rose primarily because of the price surging up in the agricultural products influenced from damage caused by the recent torrential rains.

Producer prices also moved up 0.7% in August 1999 from a month earlier, after decreasing by 0.2% in the previous month. The upward movement of the PPI is mainly tied to rising prices in the manufacturing industry products sector, particularly for the coke & petroleum products.
